Abstract

Hydrogen is gaining increasing attention in the recent years as an effective energy carrier for grid flexibilization and the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors. Among the different technologies under development for power-to-hydrogen conversion, solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) outstands due to its high conversion efficiency, fuel flexibility (e.g., CO2 electrolysis) and reversibility (i.e., the same device can work both as electrolyser and fuel cell). At the Spanish National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) we have recently launched the Hydrogen Area, dedicated to SOE technology development through modelling, fabrication and validation, from single cells to batch production. This work gives an overview of our activities in the fabrication of cells and stacks and describes the proposed fabrication route for SOE planar cells.
