Abstract

By a combination of transfer matrix method and Landau-type analysis, we study the thermodynamic behavior of triiodide chains embedded in an organic matrix. We emphasize the major role played by the internal structure of the iodine trimers and by the interchain Coulomb couplings at higher order reciprocal wave vectors. We discuss the high temperature fluctuations and the different possible phase transitions in relationship with recent X ray scattering measurements.
