Abstract

This paper concerns with the solid concentration distribution in snow-water two-phase flows in a horizontal pipe. The solid concentration distribution was theoretically investigated, based on a diffusion equation of solid particles. In order to confirm the validity of the model, the measurement of solid concentration distribution was conducted. At lower velocities, solid particles concentrated in the upper region, and not dispersed in the lower region of the pipe. At higher velocities, particles dispersed uniformly overr the cross section of the pipe, and solid concentration distribu-tions were approximately flat. The calculation on solid concentration distributions from this present model were compared with the experimental ones. The agreements were satisfactory.
