Abstract

In 1956, Édouard Glissant tried to overcome a feeling of illegitimacy by putting his trip to Paris into words in Sun of Consciousness. This diverse collection, composed of short texts in verse and prose, is the foundation of a poetic and identity pursuit and the expression of what he would later call the poetics of Relation: an approach consisting of putting all cultures on an equal footing. Made up of a series of questions, the collection shows the poet's perceptions of a new landscape, his journey towards knowledge and the articulation of his experience of disorientation.
