Abstract

This paper deals with the position sensorless speed control of solar photovoltaic (PV) power-based permanent-magnet brushless DC (PMBLDC) motor drive coupled with the compressor unit of refrigeration system. The proposed system plays an important role to design one of the best alternatives for green-energy-driven refrigeration plants. The proposed system eliminates position sensors and the need for DC-DC conversion stage to reduce complexity and cost of the overall system with increased efficiency. The sliding-mode control (SMC)-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is used in this proposed system. The sliding-mode switching function helps to improve the dynamic response and stabilize the output power. A digital signal controller (DSC) dSPACE 1104 is used for real-time validation of the proposed system. Test results are obtained to observe the performance of devised control algorithms on developed prototype under field-emulated situations.
