Abstract

The energy demand has increased rapidly worldwide due to the depletion of fossil fuels. Recently, the rate of energy consumption has become unsustainable, providing a strong incentive for many countries to pursue renewable energy sources. By 2030, Oman's national energy strategy aims to generate 20% of its electricity from renewable sources. In the same context, Oman has the target to join the front rank of countries that aim to capitalize on their renewable resources to produce green hydrogen for export to the global market and domestic utilization. This study investigates the prospects for creating green hydrogen using solar energy in Oman's Dhofar region. The key obstacles to solar-to-hydrogen generation are discussed in this paper.
