Abstract

The solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation depends on the solar irradiation level and temperature. The modules of solar PV array receive different solar irradiations under partial shading conditions (PSCs). Therefore multiple of local maxima and a global maxima power point achieve in the power-voltage characteristics of the solar array. The effects of system variables such as series resistance, parallel resistance, different solar array configurations, and different shading patterns on solar PV power generation are discussed. To increase the maximum power generation from solar PV array different topologies of the PV module connection can be used. In this paper the series-parallel (SP) and total cross tied (TCT) configurations are considered. The effect of parallel connected bypass diodes with each PV module is analyzed. Different system variables are discussed to enhance the overall efficiency of the solar PV array. The analytical results are presented using MATLAB software.
