Abstract

This research investigates the optimum solar panel installation angle for fixed solar panels to obtain the maximum annual energy collection at different latitudes using simulation equations. The simulated results were compared with the recorded data from the Weather Bureau for Taipei, Chiayi and Hungchun, respectively. The errors for daytime fair weather were all within 10%. Simulations were also performed for different solar panel inclination angles and directional angles under different latitudes to obtain the maximum overall annual solar energy. The simulation results showed that when the solar panel faces directly south, the optimum installation angle is 20 degrees for Taipei, and 17 degrees for both Chiayi and Hungchun. When the southern directional angle exceeded 29 degrees toward the east (or west) in Chiayi, the suggested optimum inclination angle was 0 degrees. Using the solar panel's photonic characteristics, the maximum power point for the solar panel under different degrees of illumination is discussed. The simulated energy results are converted into electrical power.
