Abstract

Energy consumption in buildings is increasing at a rapid rate and so is the development of renewable energy systems. India possesses huge potential for solar and wind power systems and also for, geothermal and tidal owing to site-specific characteristics and geographic location. Present paper studies the latest developments in solar-based renewable energy applications for new and existing buildings, with an aim to achieve net-zero or nearly zero energy consumption. Solar power generation is flexible in terms of applications and widely accepted in the renewable energy landscape for Indian buildings sector. Acceptance of wind, biomass and geothermal as a viable source of energy for powering green buildings is still in the nascent stage.
