Abstract

Abstract Nanofluids utilized to solar thermal utilization have been paid more attention to. In this paper, the absorption properties of the embellished gallium-doped zinc oxide (GZO)/ Copper (Cu) Janus nanoparticles have been discussed. Cu materials have localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect in visible region, and GZO materials have great absorption in near-infrared region. Therefore, GZO/Cu composite nanoparticles can achieve wide spectrum absorption. This article shows that extinction properties of embellished GZO/Cu Janus nanoparticles are improved under embellishing Cu nanoparticles on GZO surface. The radius of shell particles or core particles can tunable the extinction peaks. The photo-thermal conversion efficiency of embellished GZO/Cu Janus nanofluid increases with volume fractions, and is higher than that of GZO nanofluid. Perfect GZO/Cu Janus nanofluids have certain advantages over embellished Janus nanofluids on photo-thermal conversion efficiency, but the preparation of embellished Janus nanoparticles is simpler than that of perfect Janus nanoparticles. This work is helpful for the study of the absorption properties of embellished Janus nanoparticles under practical preparation.
