Abstract

Novel devices demand new coatings, to assure best dimensional accuracy and maximum efficiency. Recently, boron nitride thin films are deposited by sol-gel dip coating using two precursors boric acid and boron nitrate. Films have preferred orientation along (002) plane with direct relationship of crystallite size with molarity of precursors. An increase in thickness of thin films is observed for increase in molarity of boric acid but thickness was decreased with molarity of boron nitrate. Also, the band gap increased for both precursors with increase in molarity. Films are found to be ferromagnetic with decrease in saturation magnetization for boric acid and increase for boron nitrate with increase in molarity of both precursors. Dielectric constant and AC conductivity also decrease with increase in molarity of both precursors. Boron nitride has remarkable antibacterial activity against bacterial strains.
