Abstract

A new class of sol-gel glass batch products based on nepheline-containing raw material has been developed and can be used to incorporate significant amounts of basic oxides, Al2O3, and SiO2 in glasses. The possibility of not only decreasing the melting temperature of alkaline aluminoborosilicate glasses by 100–150° C but also reducing the concentration of coloring impurities in the glass when the sol-gel batch product based on industrial nepheline concentrate is used was experimentally demonstrated.
