Abstract

The tea soils of lwatahara, Shizuoka-prefecture were surveyed and the relation between the general characters of these soils and the growth of tea plant was investigated. The results were summarized as follows:1. Generally, the tea soils of three types derived from Kuroboku, yellow and yellowish-red soils were widespread on Iwatahara and the soil management was wrong and the productivity of soil was low.2. The physical properties of the low productive tea soil were inferior, especially the structure of sub-soil was compact and wet.3. Acidity of the low productive tea soil was generally stronger than that of the high productive one.4. Exchangeable Ca content of the high productive tea soil was high and phosphorus absorption coefficient was low compared with those of the low productive one.5. Humus content of the high productive Kuroboku tea soil was less than that of the low productive one and in the yellow and yellowishred tea soil, the opposite tendency existed, but in every tea soil, cation exchangeable capacity of the high productive soil was larger than that of the low productive one.
