Abstract

Apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) is one of the most important fruits in Malatya province. Nutritional status of soils is an important factor that affects yield and fruit quality. In this study, some physical and chemical properties of soil samples collected from 30 cm depth from different apricot orchards in Malatya region between 2003-2007 were investigated in the Soil and Plant Analysis Laboratory of the Fruit Research Institute. Organic matter, pH, CaC0 3 , EC, texture, available P, exchangeable K of soil samples were determined and compared to standard limits given for soils. Most soil samples were highly calcareous, low in organic matter contents. There was no salinity problem. The pH of soil samples was alkaline and slightly alkaline. Available P, exchangeable K were generally found in high levels.
