Abstract

Background and aims Knowledge related to extent of differing soil N forms and N transformation rates in subtropical southern China is severely limited. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to investigate if and how tree species of different foliage types (coniferous, deciduous, and evergreen broadleaved) influence N forms and microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and microbial biomass nitrogen (MBN) content as well as gross N transformation rates in the organic and mineral soils of three distinct subtropical forests in China.
