Abstract

A sedimentation survey, cesium 137 analyses, and soil loss calculations were used to estimate the average rate and variability in rates of sediment deposition in Silver Lake, Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Missouri, and soil loss rates in the Silver Lake drainage area. The rates of soil loss and sediment deposition have been relatively constant since 1957. Silver Lake has an estimated remaining life of 280 years. Continued sediment deposition in Silver Lake will, however, induce flora and fauna changes.
