Abstract

Abstract A mathematical model for soil vapor extraction by means of a buried horizontal slotted pipe was used to examine the effects of a number of geometrical system parameters on the efficiency of soil vapor extraction. Parameters investigated include depth of pipe relative to the water table, size of impermeable overlying cap, and presence or absence of passive horizontal vent pipes. The results demonstrate the utility of mathematical modeling for exploring cheaply and rapidly the effects of variations in soil vapor extraction system design.
