Abstract

Aims: treating babies, children and adolescents affected by wars and who present psychological suffering is a major contemporary challenge. Methods: based on the literature and on the experience of more than thirty years of work with Médecins Sans Frontières in the service of children and families affected by war, we will analyze the ways for identifying this suffering and the methods of care. Results: identification tools, such as the Psy Ca 6-18 months and 3-6 years, must be available to all, transcultural and adapted to the context of war. Care techniques and intervention methods can be evaluated and have been shown to be effective, even in the short and medium term. Conclusions: clearly identifying children suffering from psychological problems in wars is not only possible, it is now feasible and this reduces chronic suffering for tomorrow's adults, once the war is over.
