Abstract
A personal view of the history of computer science in the Netherlands with some key figures and institutes that dominated the field in the early years is provided. The key figures are Frielink, van Wijngaarden, Blaauw, van der Poel, Dijkstra, and Kruseman Aretz. The institutes are the Mathematisch Centrum, the Dr Neherlab, the Natlab, the three technical universities, and the University of Amsterdam. It is remarkable that this recent history seems to be largely forgotten.
