Abstract
The use of statistical control techniques to improve product quality is recognized in industry today as a key factor in maintaining a competitive position. Widespread, effective use of these techniques requires that they be automated. This paper describes statistical quality control methodology and examines issues central to developing software for its implementation. Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) control methodology is emphasized. Requirements for diagnostic CUSUM plots, CUSUM control programs, and integrated on-line CUSUM control are presented.
