Abstract

An initiative to improve the maturity of software processes is going on at ABB Kraftwerksleittechnik since 1991. This paper describes how this software process improvement programme relates to similar ones in other companies, how the focus of the improvement measures evolved over time, what the current status is, and, as the paper’s main part, what lessons we have learned. We summarise our experience in terms of ten theses which we consider necessary conditions for successful software process improvement programmes.
