Abstract
Residue of fossil fuel combustion such as CO, CO2, HC, and NOx need to be controlled in order to reduce the greenhouse effect, the prime cause of global warming. A large population of diesel engine power plant that spread all over Indonesia will take part in increasing global warming. Using fuel efficiently will control the emission level subsequently reducing the greenhouse effect. One of the many techniques to utilize fuel efficiently is HCCI. HCCI application in a diesel engine is carried out using controllable electronic injectors. Design and building of an SD295 double cylinder diesel engine electronic controller using ATMEGA8535 had been conducted in this research. Principle of this control method is to vary the timing and amount of fuel injected directly to the combustion chamber. The timing of fuel injection is related to SOI (Start of Injection) and EOI (End of Injection). The amount of fuel injected is proportional to the duration of activated injectors from SOI to EOI, the longer the duration the more of fuel injected to the chamber. Performance of prototype of SD295 double cylinder diesel engine electronic controller using ATMEGA8535 as the result of this research had been validated using COM Engine Indicating instrument located in Internal Combustion Engine Laboratory P2 TELIMEK LIPI. Test results show that varying and setting of SOI and EOI were well executed by the control system.
