Abstract

Inelastic neutron-scattering experiments and thermal expansion measurements on amorphous Fe 90− x Co x Zr 10 ( x = 10 and 40) and Fe 80− y Cr y P 13C 7 ( y = 4 and 8) alloys have been performed. Generalized phonon densities of states (PDOS) were deduced from the measured time-of-flight spectra at room temperature. The results show that the generalized PDOS in the energy region below 17 meV become soft at the Invar concentrations for both amorphous Fe 90− x Co x Zr 10 and Fe 80− y Cr y P 13C 7 alloys. It is suggested that the softening of the low energy PDOS in Fe-based amorphous Invar alloys could be attributed to the enhancement of electron-phonon interaction.
