Abstract

Soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy in transmission mode has proven valuable for studying the solid–liquid interphase in thin-film lithium-ion batteries. The advantages and challenges as well as the basic principles of this spectroscopic method will be discussed in this chapter. In addition, a novel gas-bubble-stabilized liquid thin-film approach will be presented, allowing in-situ SEI studies during battery charging. The state-of-the-art results and perspectives are summarized.
