Abstract

We have performed soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism study of chromium sulfide Cr 5S 6. It is found that the XMCD signals appear above 160 K, but it disappears below 150 K, which is due to ferri–antiferro magnetic phase transition. Configuration interaction cluster model analysis shows that the doped holes by the Cr vacancy are likely to be in the Cr 3d orbitals.
