Abstract

Bentzon's surgical technique for treatment of symptomatic scaphoid pseudoarthroses is described. The operation entails conversion of painful nonunions to painless ones by interposition of a capsular flap between the fracture fragments. The operation is attractive because of its simplicity, short period of postoperative immobilization, and good early results. However, the probability of late radiocarpal and intercarpal arthritis due to maintenance of an unstable scaphoid leaves few indications for this procedure at the present time.
