Abstract

This paper examines the nature of strategic planning and considers the valuable contribution that can be made by soft systems thinking and method ologies. My aim is to illustrate the potential for matching the holistic thinking contribution of soft systems with selected views on the management of strategic change in organizations. I conclude with the argument that soft systems concepts can provide a useful contribution to courses on business policy and strategic planning.
