Abstract

Raman studies in the low frequency region (<100cm−1) as a function of temperature, has been undertaken on single crystal of cesium titanyl arsenate (CTA). A soft mode like behavior for the lowest optic phonon for A1 symmetry has been observed. Temperature dependence of the mode intensity and the frequency shift suggest the possible coupling of the soft optical mode with the acoustic mode. The present results, give the first strong proof of ferroelectric nature a crystal of the KTP family.
