Abstract

High conductivity is the main obstacle for the application of magnetic metallic film as an effective electromagnetic wave absorber. To overcome the obstacle, characteristics of metamaterial are introduced to the design of the soft-magnetic-film based absorber. In the presented approach, the film functions as both a conduction coil and a magnetic absorber. Conductivity is employed to generate resonances and concentrate the incident magnetic field so magnetic power is well absorbed. The proposed absorber has been experimentally fabricated, characterised and analysed and compared with numerical simulations. Results show that skilful introduction of the magnetic loss improves absorption, and both bandwidth and absorptivity increased.
