Abstract

The Philadelphia International Airport, known by its location indicator code as PHL, is constructing an aircraft “Remain Overnight,” or RON, parking apron capable of accommodating up to eight planes. Its purpose is to provide passenger aircraft parking space away from the terminal gates to improve the efficiency of terminal operations when needed, and to provide quick access for cargo aircraft to cargo facilities and the runways, especially as PHL begins its West Cargo Development program. The apron is located on the northwest corner of the existing airfield next to the FedEx facilities in Cargo City and on the former site of the USPS facility that was demolished in 2018. The $40 million project was near completion in July 2022.
