Abstract

The short-range repulsion in nucleon-nucleon interaction is of importance to obtain saturation of nuclear matter. The repulsive core is usually assumed to be of the form of a hard core. In this paper we have made a formal investigation of the effect of replacing this hard core by a soft core. The important parameter to estimate the effectiveness of the short-range repulsion is the deficiency in the probability for finding two nucleons close together. This determines the short-range correlations. We have determined this parameter also for a set of soft core potentials. The limit of hard core in the light of the soft core potential considered is discussed in this paper. The results are compared with those obtained by other authors for a hard core potential.
