Abstract

AbstractIn the sugar mill, the raw juice, yielded from juice extraction plant, is not pure, and hence, having low pH value. Controlling the pH of this solution is of great significance, as color and purity of produced crystals of sugar are severely governed by it. To accomplish this control, a regulated quantity of lime milk is added to it for obtaining the desired pH value. In practice, the control system design for this process is very challenging due to its nonlinear and time-variant behavior. This paper addresses the control system design for this pH neutralization process, using MATLAB. In this work, the PI control system is developed for this process. For improving its response, soft computing techniques GA and SA are used. The control performance of all the designed controllers is finally compared.KeywordsSugar millOptimizeGenetic algorithmSimulated annealingControl systemSettling timePH value
