Abstract

Global warming and climate change acquire people's value gradually. Since the natural resources are becoming less, many countries have invested financially into developing renewable and new energy, in order to utilize the amount of useable energy. SOFC counts to the most diversified electrical equipment. Its wide useable range can produce electricity, heat and hot water at the same time. Besides, SOFC not only operate quietly, but also produce low carbon dioxide emissions, which attract many government invest in its development. Since Taiwan owns small territory with a limited space to develop and most of the energy is imported, the power generation system mostly bases on centralized power generation as the main system. When natural disaster come, electric shut down always leads to bigger damage. Therefore, if SOFC CHP has been used, electricity could be produced by each family, which could increase chances of self rescue in time. As for now, Taiwan 's SOFC is still at the experimental stage, whereas SOFC equipment commercialized by England, Japan still requires a high cost. This paper aims to analyze the average gneration cost of the SOFC and its application on households in Taiwan. It also evaluates the benefit of SOFC CHP and feasibility. This research include the SOFC commercialized by Japan, with its effect under different scenarios. From the results, we can find the average cost of SOFC is about NT$28.59~ NT$42.88 at the efficiency of 40%~60%. If the recovery of waste heat is 85%, the average generation cost could slightly decrease to NT$27.53~ NT$40.5. In case of equipment cost decreases 30%, the average cost could decrease to NT$20.81~ NT$31.36. Despite of the wide cost drop, it is still higher than other technology.
