Abstract

Investigations into the sodium movements between isolated frog rod outer segments and their environment have produced evidence indicating both the presence of a sodium-sodium exchange, and a ouabain sensitive efflux of sodium from the rod outer segments which is inhibited by light. It is suggested that the sodium in the outer segments may be contained in at least two compartments.
