Abstract

This study aims to approach representations of society to the phenomenon of woman infertility from a sociological perspective, considering that the phenomenon of infertility has a social and cultural dimension, it is a problem threatening the stability of married life and lead one spouse or both to occupy an inferior status within the society, and make him a victim of social and cultural constructions established in the social imagination through the historical process, and it produced a various representations, which are marginalizing the sterile individual and deprive him from social and symbolic profits. So we tried to approach the phenomenon of infertility and the related representations and practices, based on field study in Tlemcen (September-December 2020), by using a semi-directed interview with 20 couples (10 women and 10 men) living experience of infertility, with their psychological and social repercussions.
