Abstract

Abstract This chapter provides an overview of some of the important developments and contributions of sociology and 'development communication' to the management of rodent pests, particularly in the cereal agroecosystems of Developing Countries. Some of the sociological approaches and tools that have been adopted to facilitate the implementation and dissemination of rodent management are reviewed. Case studies are presented to highlight how social science and communication campaigns have played an important role in efforts to change the behaviour of smallholder farmers.
