Abstract

The article is devoted to the consideration of the socio-political views of the Russian publicist and writer V.P. Meshchersky. V.P. Meshchersky was a supporter of right-wing views, assessed as conservative and protective. His views were expressed for the most part in his letters, journalistic articles in the magazine "Citizen" and in novels. In his activity, he was characterized by the desire to prevent the impending crisis of state power in Russia by protective measures: the preservation of autocracy, the support of the nobility, the priority of Orthodoxy. Evaluation of V.P.'s activity Meshchersky for a long time wore an exclusively negative coloring, which is not entirely fair. Some of his ideas (the prevention of wars and international conflicts, the union of monarchical states) were true and fair.
