Abstract

The Maharashtrian tourists travel to Goa in large number every year. To date there are very few studies focusing on this group of tourists. This study represents an exploratory attempt to capture the underlying reasons for tourists decisions to visit a destination. The main objective is to understand the specific case of tourism in the Indian state of Goa, investigating, the socio-demographic characteristics of Maharashtrian tourists who are drawn to it. The study also examines the motivations, socio-demographic profiles, consumption patterns and image of the destination that the tourist holds.The findings can be utilized for formulating strategies to attract, maintain and retain more number of Maharashtrian tourists visiting Goa.
