Abstract
ABSTRACT The study shows that problems such as social disorder, aggressive behavior, and violence have increased in Swedish libraries over the past 2 years. Sexual harassment, drug dealing, and racist propaganda are also common. Many librarians state that their health has been negatively affected, and that they have considered a career change. Most respondents believe that the problems are due to a changing society that is failing to take care of vulnerable groups. While psychiatric and addiction care, social services, and youth activities are diminishing, the libraries are one of the few places open to all and therefore have to handle tasks far beyond their responsibilities.
