Abstract

Society Presidents, Fellows, members, and guests: It is my privilege to introduce to you this evening Dr. Geoffrey G. Snow, recipient of the prestigious Marsden Medal for exceptional service to the Society of Economic Geologists. Ella Wheeler Wilcox, 1850 to 1919, wrote, “The two kinds of people on Earth that I mean, Are the people who lift and the people that lean.” Geoff Snow lifts, not leans. He has been lifting within the Society of Economic Geologists for almost 40 years—as vice-president of the Society, councilor, member of the Executive Committee, Funding Review Committee, three terms on the Program Policy Committee, Thayer Lindsley Lecture Committee, and the Organizing Committee for Global Exploration 2002. He served 14 years with the Economic Geology Publishing Company before its merger with the Society.
