Abstract

Significant transformations, which occurred in our society from 1991 to 2002 have affected the population trends in Vojvodina. The main aim of the paper is to present the changes of population trends in this period. Natural population trends are emphasized, as indicators the birthrate, the mortality rate and rates of natural population growth are used. Special attention is dedicated to year 2000, which is considered as crucial year in our society. In this period (the year 2000) natural population growth was the lowest -5,6 per mill. The analysis of the indicators shows an undesirable tendency of population trends of Vojvodina. Insufficient birth giving and very low natural population growth leads to depopulation and aging of the population. The aging of the population is proved also by the participation of the people aged 60 and over, which in total population in Vojvodina make up about 1/5 of the population.
