Abstract

The World Health Organization estimates that cardiovascular diseases were responsible for almost 18 million deaths globally in 2019 [1], and of these, around half were classified as sudden cardiac death (SCD) [2]. In 50% of cases of SCD, sudden cardiac arrest is the presenting manifestation of the underlying cardiovascular disease, and a further 20% of the deaths are due to cardiomyopathies or genetic aetiologies which are mostly undiagnosed prior to sudden cardiac arrest [2,3].
