Abstract
A seminar on theory and methodology is in permanent operation in the Academy of Sciences of the USSR under its vice-president, V. N. Kudriavtsev. Outstanding Soviet social scientists are invited to it to discuss the most timely and profound problems of the activity of our society on a comprehensive basis. This report by Academician T. I. Zaslavskaia was the object of an interesting discussion, since it reflected some very important themes that are of prime significance for the further development of sociological thought The editorial board [of Sotsiologicheskie issledovaniia] intends to publish materials on the discussion of the report in the next issue. (The report was presented for discussion in March 1991.)
