Abstract

Periodic publications of special issues on topics and questions of significant concern for the profession of social work were initiated when this journal was previously known as Social Casework. This project was kept alive when the journal's name was changed to Families in Society ten years ago. Given the broad diversity of articles published in the regular issues of the journal—reflecting the myriad commitments and functions of our profession— it was deemed important to pause from time to time to dedicate an entire issue to vigorous scrutiny of one critical theme. Scholars possessing the relevant authority of knowledge and experience were invited to serve as guest editors who, in turn, invited leaders in their fields to submit their work for publication in the special issues.
