Abstract

With the development of social network services (SNS) and TV programs, an increasing number of viewers prefer to share their opinions about broadcasting contents on Facebook or Twitter. This makes TV viewing behavior become social. However, these services are mostly based on the relationships between friends, followings and followers, the transmission of TV comments in real-time will be blocked between the ones who do not know each other before but have a same interest on some particular TV programs. This paper proposes an interaction design of a social TV real-time chatting application, called TouchTalk, which aiming at providing a better experience on program communication and comments sharing with each other in real-time while watching TV. For this purpose, we investigated some basic properties of social TV and analyzed viewer's behavior. Based on the results of these research, the formation of a platform and some design principles for social TV are proposed, making it reasonable and meaningful to design TouchTalk. A satisfactory survey is conducted after the design and development of application, which indicates that viewers feel more interacting and communicating with others viewers by using TouchTalk.
