Abstract

Sustainable development is based on the three dimensions of environmental, economic, and social parameters. Within these, environmental and then economic parameters have become the focus of planners and policymakers. The social dimension of sustainable development, due to its intangible nature, has been neglected. It is necessary, hence, to carry out research in this field (social sustainability). In this regard, research has been attempting to examine the social sustainability of a neighborhood that has been raised over the last few years in urban planning and management. In this research, a comparative study of social sustainability indices in two old and new texture neighborhoods in Tehran has been carried out. The results of the research show that there is a significant difference between the two neighborhoods in terms of social sustainability: Thus, the indicators of social sustainability in the new neighborhood are more appropriate. Also, the amount of sense of place between the two neighborhoods is very different. It is much higher in the new neighborhood.
