Abstract

This study evaluated the effectiveness of Social Story™ with self-modeling on social skills of three Korean-American children with autism spectrum disorder. Each child and the mother read a story illustrating appropriate social initiations and responses in their preferred language and played with a designated set of toys for 10 min. Reading a Social Story™ with self-modeling that is responsive to families’ language and culture improved children’s initiations, responses, and affect. These changes were maintained during a short-term follow-up and generalized to a novel adult. Parents expressed high satisfaction with intervention procedures and outcomes. Implications for practice and research are discussed.
