Abstract

Ongoing clinical counselling was provided for a schizophrenic patient during a 12-week programme of social skills training. Changes in the patient’s behaviour were evaluated on an Adult Training Instrument, his own reports of his symptoms of anxiety, scores on the Social Behaviour Schedule, and frequency of nocturnal enuresis. Supportive clinical counselling was provided in the ward and outside of the ward. While his functioning continued to deteriorate generally, hospital staff reported that the trend of deteriorating behaviour appeared to have slowed down during the phase when he was exposed to activities outside the ward.
