Abstract

This study aims to understand factors affecting Social Media Use for English writing (SMU-EW) to help improve the use of technology in the English classroom by extending the technology acceptance model (TAM). Through survey, instruments for the current study were adapted, translated, and distributed to Indonesia pre-service English teachers (n. 1470); 1454 data were measurable and analyzed for the scale validation and main findings. A valid and reliable scale (19 items) were produced from statistical procedures such as content validity index, pilot study, and measurement model. For the main data analysis, eight hypotheses were established that involved 8 variables: perceived ease of use (PEU), perceived usefulness (PU), attitudes (AT), facilitating conditions (FC), and behavioral intention (BI). Path coefficients (β), t values, and p-values were informed for the statistical significances. All eight hypotheses were confirmed; the strongest relationship emerged between FC and PU, while the least significant correlation existed between PU and BI. Recommendations are facilitated based on the results of the study.
