Abstract

Autonomous driving vehicle is one of solutions to provide transportation rights with an alternative modal transportation in the community which is increasing of aging population in rural area. There is technically challenged for determination of driving path of the vehicle to realize autonomous driving in snowy cold region. In order to determine it, sensing of road surface weather which categorizes how the condition of the road in front of the vehicle, is a sort of essential information. This paper reports the social experiment of road surface weather sensing system which intends to realize autonomous vehicle in snowy cold region. The authors developed an onboard environment sensor system, visualization platform, and a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication system which consists of multiple wavelength wireless system. The authors had a social experiment using the prototype which is installed on actual guided autonomous driving vehicle system, the proposed system categorized and logged road state with 99.5% accuracy.
